Xinhua News Agency, San Francisco, April 27 (Reporter Wu Xiaoling) A joint poll released by the US media on the 27th showed that when US President Trump's second term is about to expire 100 days, his support for the administration set a record for the lowest level of the same period for all US presidents in the past 80 years. Most people opposed his major policies, were dissatisfied with the current U.S. economy and were worried about the prospects of a recession.
Polls show that only 39% of respondents recognized Trump's performance in power, down 6 percentage points from February this year. The original record of the lowest approval rating for 100 days in power was also set by Trump, which was 42% of his first term in 2017. In addition, 55% of respondents were negative about Trump's performance in administration, setting the worst record for the same period for all US presidents in the past 80 years.
Polls show that Trump's main policies are opposed by most Americans:
——64% of respondents do not support Trump’s practice of imposing tariffs on imported goods, and 71% believe that tariff policies will increase inflation;
——73% of respondents believe that the U.S. economy is in poor condition, 53% believe that the economy has worsened since Trump took office, and 72% are worried that Trump’s economic policies may lead to a recession in the short term;
——62% of respondents believe that the Trump administration does not respect the rule of law principles, 65% believe that the Trump administration is trying to circumvent federal judicial rulings, and 64% criticize it for over-expanding presidential power;
——60% of respondents said Trump deviated from the concerns of most Americans, and 58% were worried that Trump was overly weakening of federal government functions.
In addition, this poll showed that 30% of respondents expressed distrust of both the Republican and the Democratic parties.
Trump's second term will be over 100 days on April 30. The 100-day poll of the ruling 100 days was conducted by the ABC, The Washington Post and Ipsos Group in English and Spanish from April 18 to 22. It randomly surveyed 2,464 American adults, with an error range of two percentage points.
