Chinese representative calls for work together to break through unilateralism and bullying

Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, April 23 (Reporter Shi Chun and Yang Shilong) China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong called on all countries to work together to adapt to the historical trend of peace and development, break through the countercurrent of unilateralism and bullying, maintain the international system with the United Nations as the core, and maintain the international order based on international law.

On the same day, Fu Cong presided over the Aria model meeting of the Security Council at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, "The Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying on International Relations", and representatives of more than 80 countries, including members of the Security Council, attended the meeting.

In his keynote speech, Fu Cong said that the United States' abuse of tariffs seriously infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, seriously violates the rules of the WTO, and seriously impacts the stability of the global economic order. In essence, it uses tariffs as a means to subvert the international economic and trade order, uses American interests to override the public interests of the international community, and serves the hegemony of the United States at the expense of the legitimate interests of all countries around the world. What the world needs is openness and tolerance rather than isolation, sovereignty equality rather than bullying the weak, fairness and justice rather than the priority of the country, unity and cooperation rather than division and confrontation. The international community must make the right choice, make a consistent voice, and take joint action.

Fu Cong emphasized that in the face of the US's counter-instance, China has taken decisive countermeasures, which not only safeguards its legitimate rights and interests, but also safeguards the common interests of the international community and defends international fairness and justice. If the United States really wants to resolve the problem through dialogue and consultation, it should adopt an equal, respectful and mutually beneficial attitude. Extreme pressure and threats and blackmail are not the correct way to deal with China.

In his speeches, most of the delegates called for adhering to multilateralism, strengthening dialogue and cooperation, safeguarding the multilateral trading system with the WTO as the core, abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, abiding by international law and basic norms of international relations, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and promoting the stability and development of all countries.
