Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 24 (Reporters Cao Jiayue and Cheng Xin) Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on the 24th that China urged the Philippines to cherish China's active efforts to manage the maritime situation, and to keep its promises, and not to make trouble or cause trouble.
A reporter asked: According to reports, the Philippines recently issued a statement denied that it had solicited Chinese permission for the Renai Reef operation on March 4 this year, and said it did not recognize any rights of China to Renai Reef. What is China’s response to this?
Guo Jiakun said that China has sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, including Ren'ai Reef and its nearby waters. China has a clear and clear position on how to deal with the current situation in Renai Reef. First, the Philippines sent "warships" to "sit on the beach" on Ren'ai Reef for a long time to infringe on China's sovereignty and violate the "Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea". China asked the Philippines to tow the ship away. Second, before the Philippines dragged away the "beach-sitting" warship, China is willing to start from humanitarianism, inform China in advance, and after on-site verification, it allows the Philippines to transport daily necessities. Third, China will never accept that the Philippines will transport a large amount of building materials onto the ship and attempt to build fixed facilities and permanent outposts, and will resolutely block them in accordance with the law and regulations.
Guo Jiakun said that based on the above three principles, China reached a temporary arrangement with the Philippines in July last year on the transportation and replenishment of humanitarian daily necessities. After that, according to the temporary arrangement, under the full supervision of the Chinese coast guard department, the Philippines carried out seven rounds of daily necessities transportation and replenishment. The Philippines' transportation and replenishment was carried out in advance with the notice of China, and the transportation was confirmed on the spot by China.
"China will continue to firmly safeguard its sovereignty and rights and interests, and urge the Philippines to cherish China's active efforts to manage the maritime situation, and to keep its promises firmly, and not to make trouble or cause trouble." Guo Jiakun said.
