The US Northern Command issued a statement on the 16th saying that earlier on the 15th, three US troops on the US-Mexico border were in a car accident while patrolling in New Mexico, killing two soldiers and seriously injured another soldier. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The accident is the first death of a U.S. military to carry out a mission on the U.S.-Mexico border.
U.S. President Trump immediately signed an executive order after taking office, declaring a state of emergency on the U.S.-Mexico border and deployed thousands of soldiers to the region to deport, repatriate and clear illegal immigrants across the border.
