TV series "Going North" received praise: It has both historical atmosphere and the spirit of the times

The China Television Arts Committee hosted a seminar on TV series "Going North" in Beijing on April 14. Experts believe that the play outlines the life picture of the people along the Grand Canal through delicate brushstrokes and real emotions. It is a masterpiece with a historical atmosphere and the spirit of the times. Its popularity reflects the audience's deep concern about the collision of traditional culture and modernity.

The TV series "Going North" is adapted from the novel of the same name by Xu Zechen who won the Mao Dun Literature Award. From the perspective of a group of teenagers in the south of the Yangtze River along the Grand Canal, it focuses on depicting the geographical and cultural styles along this ancient canal from 2000 AD to the present.

Zhu Zhengwen, deputy director of the TV Series Department of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, said that in the narrative rhythm of "fast" and "slow", the TV series "Going North" provides the audience with a coordinate system for understanding tradition and modernity, provides new thinking and spiritual motivation for cultural roots, and is a window to understand China and tell Chinese stories well.

"The Northward Going to the West has been adapted into different artistic forms, which is established within its own framework and artistic logic." Xu Zechen said, "The influence of a novel is limited, and it can be spread through art forms that the masses are more popular with. I am very pleased as the author."

Yin Hong, vice chairman of the Chinese Art Critics Association, said that the TV series "Going North" integrates the historicity and complexity of Grand Canal culture into the life growth process of the characters, completes the narrative in lightweight expression, and draws the magnificent Grand Canal epic, carries the spiritual world of the canal, presenting the changes and unchanges of the times. It is a good work that complements film and television works and literary works. (Reporter Bai Ying)
