Australian police seize more than 1 ton of cocaine

 Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 11 (Xinnan Wales, Australia's New South Wales government issued a statement on the 11th saying that the police seized 1.039 tons of cocaine near the state's coast and arrested five suspects involved.

  The statement said that based on the information obtained in advance, the police stopped a 13-meter-long motorboat off the coast 450 kilometers north of Sydney on the morning of the 9th, and found cocaine weighing 1.039 tons and packaged into 1,110 yuan on the boat.

  Police arrested two men on the boat, ages 24 and 26 respectively. They are charged with participating in organized crime and supplying large quantities of banned drugs. Three other men were arrested on the same day when they were driving two cars to leave the nearby coast, ages 28, 29 and 35. They were charged with the same crime.

  The Parramatta Bail Court in western Sydney denied the five people bail on the 10th, and they will appear again on July 15 this year.

  Australian Federal Police Officer Stephen Dameto said that many criminal gangs attempt to use Australia's long coastline to smuggle drugs with ships, and Australian police will firmly crack down on it. (Yuan Yuan)
